Hello Mountain West Region,

How are you doing?  Good? or not so good?  How do you know?

What are trying to accomplish?

What are your priorities?

Is service to your community number one on your list?  If you are not where you want to be, go back to basics.

Are you too inward looking?

Do you only select from the opportunities that come before you?  Or are your members involved in the community and know who is in need and who can be best served by the abilities and strengths of your club?

Do you need to re-examine your missions?

Are you fragmented in what you are trying to do?

Is your Service in many areas?

What % of your funds raised are donated to each category?

Do you need to reduce your focus to service in a few categories?

Do you believe that Hearing Health should be your main focus?

If you need to adjust your strategy, do so with the Clubs original mission in mind.

Do the members feel that they are Involved and that any changes represent a consensus of the club?

Remind everyone that your club was organized to help others.

Club Liason

Has the Club Liason been selected?  Send an email to infosertoma@sertomahq.org with the subject "club liaison" and give  the name and email of the Club liaison.

 Hello Mountain West Region,

Let’s talk about Membership.   The following Clubs had a net Gain in membership on the August Membership Report: Prospectors Sertoma, New Dawn Sertoma, Overland Sertoma, Gleneagle  Sertoma , Mt-Su Sertoma, Legacy Sertoma, Las Cruces Sertoma, Twin Cities Sertoma and Tucson Downtown   Sertoma . Do I hear a round of applause? Thank you.

Will I be able to include your club in this list next month?

Why are these Clubs successful?  Did the new members just happen? Or do these Clubs have an ongoing plan?  I hope they have a plan, so the name of the Club will soon appear on the list again. If your Club does not have a plan then an increase in membership is just a dream or a hope. Is your plan written down and has it been agreed to by all the members in the Club? Attached is part of a plan by Frank Harper, Sacramento Valley Sertoma. Can you sent me a copy of your  Club’s Plan?

 Club Liason.

This is important!  Some information in the future will only be sent to your Club in this fashion. If you don’t have a “ Club Liason “ you will receive information in a less timely fashion.  We don’t want your club to be the only one to say “? I never heard….”
Each club has been asked to assign a club member to  participate in a new communication service from Sertoma.  This program will provide the club six to nine 20 minute presentations for use during club meetings or other sessions.  It will also provide a direct connection between your club and Sertoma to ask questions, and request topics for future presentations. All that is needed, is a member willing to invest a couple of hours a month and that has a computer, a phone, and the desire to use and develop their presentation skills, and at the same time  helping their club.

The first session is being planned now, so get your member assigned, and reported to HQ.  Send an email to infosertoma@sertomahq.org with the subject "club liaison" and give  the name and email of the Club liaison.

Please submit your Club Liason’s name as soon as possible.

Membership Plan

I hereby request that -------------- Sertoma appoint a membership committee of at least 3 current Sertoma  members for the following purpose :

That we have a Sertoma meeting each month at lunch in addition to our normal breakfast meetings.

Since most restaurants are busy during the noon hour, we may have to consider meeting at 1:PM .

Meeting mid day would meet the desire of several prospective members who expressed a desire to be involved in community service  but  had no desire to attend a meeting at 7:00 AM.

The membership committee will research the availability of local restaurants and report back to the Board by 9/17/2010..

Membership Drive Luncheon

l propose that ---------------- Sertoma have an Membership Luncheon to recruit new members.

The Membership committee will plan this luncheon. A presentation will be made on the community activities in which we are currently involved and we will be sure each prospect has an opportunity to become a Sertoman. Each attendee will be assigned a Sertoman to explain what is expected of members and the opportunities that are available to members. Only the designated Sertoman will invite the prospect to become a Sertoman.  This is to avoid prospects from being overwhelmed by requests to join Sertoma.

Invitations will be sent with RSVP to prospective attendees.

The luncheon cost of the prospects will be charged to the membership budget account.

Former Sertoma members will be contacted to determine if the circumstances that caused them to suspend their membership have changed and offer them a reinstatement of their membership.

The Alphabetical list of business classifications will be used to determine prospects. Members will be asked for names of people in each category that they do business with.

People who attend our fund raisers will be provided information on Sertoma and requested

to become friends of Sertoma.

Subject: Sertoma Atlantic Coast Regional Director promotes Sertoma with NASCAR Design Entry

All,

Do you like NASCAR?  Are you in SERTOMA?  Yes to either answer gives reason to go to the website below!

Chris Thomas is the Regional Director from the Atlantic Coast Region and down that way folks get a NASCAR HIGH like we get A ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH when we take the quad chair to the top of a snowy peak.

Chris has entered a car design that promotes Sertoma and if we all vote today and everyday for the next two weeks we have the chance of advancing Chris’s entry and gaining some national exposure for Sertoma.

This is one of the ad programs that seems to be getting a lot of  play these days where you vote on-line for a cause.  In this case we are voting in support of Chris and his initiative as a fellow Sertoman doing what he can to promote Sertoma.

Just click on the link or cut and past the website into your browser window.  When you do you will connect to sponsafier and see a car zoom into view.  The Sertoma design on the car will take form.  Then simply click on the vote button each day.

Below is a note from Chris himself.

Chris Thomas Hello fellow SERTOMANS. Please take the time to vote for the SERTOMA designed race car for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. We have only 15 days to vote. If successful, and our car gets the most votes, then we will get some National exposure for Sertoma. Vote everday and send it to your friends.

SERTOMA proudly sponsored by TOPHER01

www.sponsafier.com

TOPHER01 has used the Sponsafier to create a custom Cup car. If enough people vote for this design, TOPHER01 will experience never before seen glory and fame as it's showcased at the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series' Kobalt Tools 500 at Phoenix.

Hello Mountain West Region,

I am excited about the upcoming Sertoma year and I hope you are also. We have a lot of talent and knowledge in our clubs and we need to look for opportunities to use it.  We also need to share this wisdom with each other. I would hope you will add me to your list for your Club bulletin or newsletter.  If your club does not have one, how about a short note as what your club is doing about retention, membership, fundraising, or having fun.  Unless I hear from you,  I won’t know what is going on in the Region and I won’t be able to share what is going on within the Region. Please help me.  You know how to contact me, so keep in touch.

Since you received this mailing, I would like to consider you as a member of my Post Card Cabinet.  If you have a question please contact me. If I have a question or something comes up, I would like to have your input.

Let’s make an effort to keep in contact with each other across the region. Our region is large but by mail and electronics we can make it work.

As we plan for next year we need to take a look at where we are.  As you do when someone is coming to visit your house, you look around to see if your house is in order.  Have you used the attached Club Assessment Survey or a similar form to evaluate your Club?  If you have,  Great!  If you have not, you might want to try it.  What are your Clubs strengths and weaknesses? Is there any aspect that you need work on or change?  Let me and your District Governor know if you decide to use or what the survey indicates. It only takes a few minutes and can be revealing.

 Mountain West Activities

Sadly, I must inform you that the Salida, Colorado Sertoma  Club is surrendering its charter. All of the Service Clubs in Salida are canceling their national connections and joining together into one unaffiliated organization. They all decided they could no longer continue on their own.  We will miss their Sertoma contributions to the Salida Community and the Region.

The L A Firefighters were involved in a fundraiser where 30 Fire Station firefighters prepared the food. .Sounds like fun. Hopefully it was a successful event. ( Do you receive their Newsletter? June.andrade@lafdsertoma.org )

Mesa is sponsoring a “ Arizona Celebration of Freedom”  on July 2-3, It is a huge event.(walt@mindspring.com)
