April 2011 FDR NEWSLETTER
As we begin the final quarter of the year, now is the time to ASK all individuals and clubs you have not received an Annual Fund gift from to support our national mission of Sertoma. You may have visited these clubs before – but an email or a call might help them remember. Asking donors more than once is great – they know you are sincere when you come back. I am not asking you to be a nag – just kindly re-ask them to support the Annual Fund. Most districts should be at least at 70% of last year’s total or above by this time in the year. Currently we have 16 districts that are over 100% of last year’s total – and many of those have a much higher percentage. On the other hand we have 14 districts that are below 70% of last year’s total. This is putting the burden of raising the funds on many other FDRs. If your district is behind – it is not too late. Get out there and make those visits. If visits are not possible – at least email or call each club and encourage them to support the Annual Fund. I would love to see every district at 100% of last year’s total! That would more than allow us to meet our goal with the others that are ahead. Laura and I are here to help – if you need lists or information. I know there are several making visits this week – keep up the great work.
Region Meetings: Heart of America, Allegheny/Canada and Great Lakes For Regions having conventions, a list of current donors and a list of those who gave to the Annual Fund last year, but have not done so this year will be available from your Development Committee member or Headquarters Staff person or whomever the region has appointed as their representative at the region meeting. These reports are private – please do not share – but they are important. The current donor list will give you those you need to thank – thanking is the greatest and one of the most important things we do as fundraisers, and you can never thank someone enough. The other list should help guide you to individuals/clubs that normally make a gift. Maybe they have not been personally asked yet this year – but they are your most potential donors left. PLEASE contact them and ask them to support the Annual Fund again this year.
There should also be a time during the region meeting when the Annual Fund will be talked about – use this opportunity to ask individuals at the region meeting who have not supported the Annual Fund to do so that weekend!
Regions not having meetings: Atlantic Coast, Great Plains, Mountain West (Southeastern/Caribbean) These regions not having conventions until fall will need to solicit your clubs and individuals by making your visits! Those donors who normally give at a region meeting need to be encouraged to still give this spring, just not at a region meeting. You will need to make special efforts to contact these individuals. If you would like lists of current donors or those who gave last year but have not done so this year PLEASE request them. We can send you this list any time. You will not be given gift amounts or dates, but you will have levels they gave to. PLEASE make every effort to encourage your members to give this fiscal year. July 1 becomes a new fiscal year and some may think they will wait until convention to give. Ask them to give now, in this fiscal year and make next year’s gift at the convention! This will help so we can continue to support the grants and scholarships at our current level.
NEXT YEAR….. It is now time to begin thinking about our next year and the group that will follow. I need to know in a very short time period if you, as an FDR or Development Committee member, would like to continue. Each of these positions are one year commitments. You must be a current donor to the Annual Fund, so if you have not made your gift this year and would like to continue, please get your gift in! If I do not hear from you soon, I will be contacting you personally to find out what you would like to do.
VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISING AWARD It is also time to make sure all your reports are in, you have participated in training and made your commitment to the Annual Fund. These awards will be given at your region meetings as of July 1, 2011. PLEASE complete your division to 105% of last year’s totals and the aforementioned requirements to qualify. There are several who are very close but have not turned in reports or have one of the other things left out. I would love to see that all our FDRs and all our Development Committee members receive this award. It would say a lot to our organization about how we feel about the Annual Fund and how important it is. The Annual Fund will say a lot to outside organizations about how Sertoma feels about her national mission if all of our members support the Annual Fund.
REPORTS Third quarter report is now due. Please let me know if you need a copy emailed to you.
